APEL's HEPA Air Filters
APEL International Inc. is a leading manufacturer of replacement

Why HEPA?
HEPA Air Filters are
used when the highest possible degree of air filtration is required
with efficiencies better than 99.97% against the standard 0.3 µm
(.3 microns) (nominal) dioctylphthalate test cloud. HEPA air filters
are used to maintain "purified air" and "clean rooms" for the areas
sensitive to airborne particulate. HEPA air filters are composed
of a mass of fine fibers, usually glass, made into a paper or pad,
and pleated to present a large area to the gas flow.
The large pleated area
in the HEPA Air Filters has three important effects.
1) First, it gives lower resistance than a plain sheet;
2) Second, it permits a much larger deposit to accumulate before
resistance rises to unacceptable limits;
3) Third, as penetration of small particles is less at low velocities,
it provides a filter of higher efficiency.
Both resistance and penetration of sub-micron particles rise with
increasing velocity through the medium. HEPA
air filters are employed at low face velocities where the major
filtration mechanisms are diffusion and interception, inertia playing
a relatively small part. With increasing gas velocity, diffusion
plays a smaller role, leading to greater penetration.

HEPA Air Filter Construction
Frames, adhesives, the filter medium, and gaskets are made from
suitable material when it is necessary to withstand high temperature
or chemical attack. Cylindrical Cartridge Filters and Panel style
HEPA air filters are custom designed to suit OEM specifications.
Standard components include metal end caps, urethanes, silicones,
hot melt, pleat spacing, inner and outer screens made from expanded
metal.
